Oil Cleansing Method

Today, we would like to talk about what may be a new way for you to cleanse your skin. It is called oil-cleanse and may seem counter-intuitive at first. But regardless of your skin type, it will benefit from this cleansing method.

What is Oil Cleansing?

Though is sounds rather odd at first, the concept of using natural botanical oils to cleanser the skin actually makes a lot of sense. The primary idea of oil cleansing is to use natural oils in specific combination to cleanse and balance the skin. The result is a much more nourished and moisturized complexion that mass market soap cleansers or detergent based skin care cleansers cannot match.

The basic idea behind this skin care and cleansing method is that the oil used to massage your skin will dissolve the surface grime that has hardened with impurities and become attached to your pores.  The steam will open your pores, making dirt removal much easier, and the oil used will nourish the skin at the same time.

Here is a little-known skin care fact: Oil dissolves oil. Think back to high school chemistry and the concept of like dissolves like. The best way to dissolve human sebum is with another oil. When done properly, the oil cleansing method can clear the skin of issues such as; oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, blackheads, whiteheads, and other issues caused by acne.

Does the Oil Cleansing Method work?

A number of people report that there is an initial detox period for the skin as impurities are pulled from the skin. Let’s face it, you have likely built up a decade of more of use from detergent cleansers. As your skin adjusts to this new method, in 3 – 4 weeks you will see an absence of skin issues.

Oil Cleansing Ingredients.

To get started, all you need are a few different natural oils. At Russell Organics we sell a wide range of oils for this method. We would recommend starting with our Organic Camellia Oil, our Organic Argan Oil, or our Organic Rose Hip Oil. Next you will need a clean wash cloth.

Oil Cleansing Instructions:

If you are new to oil cleansing, it will take a few times to sort out the right amount and combinations involved for your skin. Generally, starting at ½ Camellia Oil and ½ Rose Hip Oil is a great place to start. Or any oil of your choice in any amount.

How to Wash Your Face with Oil Cleansing

  1. Pour about a quarter sized amount onto your hand and with both hands work it into your complexion in a massaging motion. Remember that we are trying to get the fresh oil to interact with the buildup on your face. Massage for a minute or two or until you are certain the oil has saturated your skin.
  2. Place a clean wash cloth under hot tap water and wring it out. Open it and place over your skin. You are looking to create a steam effect against the skin to help the oils to draw out impurities. Leave the wash cloth on for a minute or two until it cools off. Repeat this important step if you feel it is necessary. Next, use the washcloth to remove the oil by gentle wiping it away.

That is it. Pretty easy. Soon you will notice improvement in your skin’s tone and appearance.

Tips on the Oil Cleansing Method.

  • It is normal to experience initial issues with your skin while your skin adjusts to this new method. If you can, resist the urge to use detergents or soaps during this period.
  • Most likely you will need to try different oils to find the exact right one for your skin.
